AMAZING POWDER WONDERLAND IN HOKKAIDO BC – Niseko and Asahikawa 2012
AMAZING POWDER WONDERLAND IN HOKKAIDO BC – Niseko and Asahikawa 2012 It was the most amazing powder season in Feb and March, so much snow in Niseko and up north of Hokkaido. On 20th of Feb we had the most snow fall of about 2m in one day according to local newsletter. And almost 11m of total snow fall which is a lot more than average season. Now still we are having powder snow in April which is never happened before. It is time to say we are living in POWDER WONDERLAND!!!!!!!
Hokkaido Road Trip – Notsuke Peninsular
Sitting on the tatami in my hotel I had a few maps spread out and was deciding where to next…!? When I spotted this tiny spit of sand my decision was made… just looking at the geography of this place I knew I had to check it out.
I didn’t know much about it, or even if you could get access in winter… as it turns out it was pretty much just me on a narrow road and a whole bunch of birds… I spent the whole day looking from a deep frozen ocean on the north to a wide expanse of snow plains which are frozen swamp lands to the south. This area is pretty deserted by humans in winter (because it’s FREEZING, windy and generally unpleasant) so I saw a lot of Hokkaido locals – eagles, foxes are the kings out here.
Hokkaido is epic.
Hokkaido Road Trip – Volcanoes, Swans & Snow Funk.
Second post about 2000K’s of epic Hokkaido-ness.
This set of images is from an inland mission, away from the ice to check out some volcanoes, frozen lakes and get back to nature with a few more birds!
Here’s a quick glimpse of a rough map as to where this whole road trip took me…

Hokkaido Road Trip – Ice, White, & Heli Rides.
Last week I took off for 2 days to shoot up to Abashiri and check out the sea ice. 1 week and 2000k’s later I made it home with a huge smile and and incredibly dirty car.
I was lucky enough to have great weather most days meaning I shot every roll of film, used every battery and memory card I had. I think I actually stopped every 500m for the entire trip – definitely a solo mission! Managed to get up at 5 most days for sunrise and then spent the days cruising around deserted roads in the East.
Hokkaido is an winter wilderness like I’ve never seen, frozen oceans, ice lakes, birds galore, steaming volcanoes and friendly locals! This is post 1 of several to cover a road trip of the entire eastern coast of Hokkaido.

Grabbed a Gentem Big Fish for the day to check it out in the pow, I’d say about 50cm+ of fresh. We had a fun group of mates out cat skiing and this was my first run of the day…
